The New Covenant
To Gnosis God
The announcement of the New Covenant to the Nations. Matthew 24:14
Preface
It is interesting that many say they have a basic understanding of the New Covenant until they are asked a couple of questions about the New Testament’s presentation of the message. Although the purpose of this essay is to give a fairly thorough sketch of what the New Covenant is in the form of a derivation and a road map through it, there is no claim that any and every question one could posit will be addressed.
This book is not for everyone. Those who (oidate pantes) oida all things (1 John 2:20) of course understand that they do not need anyone to teach them since they have an anointing which teaches them all things (1 John 2:27)
I have used simplified Greek as a courtesy to the non-Greek reader. Many of the technical matters are in the end notes and appendices, and there is a glossary for all the italicized transliterated words. I assume the average reader will require a couple of readings of the main essay. The end notes will be useful to many.
The Seekers
As a point of departure we will read 2 Corinthians 4:2-4 “but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn [upon them].” ASV This as opposed to 2 Peter 1:19 “you do well taking heed as a lamp shinning in a murky place until the day dawns and a day star rises in your hearts.”
Although the handling the word of God deceitfully, the gospel being veiled them that perish and the god of this world is blinding the minds of the unbelieving, are each important matters, they are not pivotal questions. The congruent handling of Scripture is each individual’s responsibility. It is God that sees to it that the called are taught John 6:45 . Man is without excuse Romans 1:20 . Since many are called but few are elected , the most, many minus few, are the only real problem.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:7 “but we speak the a wisdom of God in mystery.. . “ may seem like a problem except we see in 1 John 5:20 “We know that the Son of God is come and he has given us discursive thought in order that we might ginosko the true one.” So the question is decipherable. I will to walk you through it.
The message of the New Covenant per se is scattered through out the New Testament with the Lord, John, Peter and Paul all making major contributions. There is only one New Covenant so under the assumption of congruence they are all saying the same thing. They do not all use the same language but they all address the same point from a little different point of view. We will look to integrate them.
The central thesis here might best be described as the object of the verb to seek in the following verses.
Matthew 6:33 But first seek the kingdom/rule of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Page one
Luke 12:31 But rather seek the kingdom/rule of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Colossians 3:1 If you were raised by Christ, seek the things above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God.
Galatians 2:17 “If while seeking to be justified..“
Romans 2:7 “. . . seeking eternal life. . . “
Let us first define pistos : The word translated faith or believe refers to assent of the soul, concurrence of the will, intention of the conscious self which Romans 1:5 identifies obedience as a distinctive semantic element. Obedience is not a distinctive semantic element of the semantic field of faith, believe, etc.
Here is an easy demonstration:
Romans 1:5 “. . .obedience of pistos. . .”
Acts 16:31 And they said, Pistos on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved,`
Hebrews 5:9 and being matured he became the means of eternal salvation to all who obey him,
1 Peter 1:22 “Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth.
1 Peter 1:9 obtaining the result of the [Divine genus] pistos, salvation of souls.
We see here that here are obedience is necessary for pistos, on the other hand many would have it that to be saved is holding an opinion but to purify your soul which entails obedience to the truth. Pistos is assent of the soul. The expression of that assent of the soul is obedience. Faith/believe in the absolute is to think OED . Think is of the mind, pistos is of the soul. That kernel of meaning cannot be contradicted by any usage. When I first entered the Christian religion I knew what believe meant. It meant to think, to hold an opinion and it was a very expensive error to that I was primarily to hold an opinion about something. I will use them in opposition. I don’t care what you believe, I don’t care what you think, I don’t care what your opinion is; be obedient to the requirements of the seeker of the New Covenant promises.
Since many are called and few are elected it should become apparent why most fail to be elected. The failure stems from an attempt to substitute some philosophy for the Lord’s New Covenant.
Matthew 7:21-3 is a classic example, the many, who have no idea what the New Covenant is, now want to argue with the Lord that their philosophy defines it.
Matthew 7:21-3 Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by your name, cast out demons by your name, and do many mighty works by your name? And then will I say to them, I never knew (ginosko) you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
The first goal of the receiver of the authority of the Lord (note John 1:12) is justification. It means to be declared by God as observant to the rule of and duty to God. The result is righteousness.
Old Covenant justification was by pistos alone. James 2:20-21 Pistos without works is dead. Abraham’s works were out of live pistos and was counted as righteousness. But this is not New Covenant righteousness.
One can think of the path to New Covenant justification as a three legged stool, all are necessary; together they are sufficient for the called, as in Galatians 2:17 “If while seeking to be justified . . .”
Leg number one, your logos, message in the world.
Matthew 12:37 For by your logos you will be justified and by your logos you will be condemned."
This problem is easy to see in a test of obedience in 1 John 4:1-3 Agapetoi, do not submit to every spirit but test the spirits if they are out of God, because many false prophets have gone into the world. By this we can identify their connection to God. Every spirit which says the same thing, agrees with , and comes to terms with having come in the flesh Jesus Christ is out of God. And every spirit which does not agree with and come to terms and say the same thing as Jesus Christ is not. And this is the spirit of the antichrist. . . “ Literally, against or anti to the Lord’s anointing.
The tense of the verb “you will be justified” is Verb future, Indicative, Future, Passive (VIFP). This means that as a statement of fact in the future you will be attributed the righteousness of God by God. You will be declared observant to the rule and duty to God by God on the basis of your logos, message, what you say about things.
The world is a perfect place. It is perfect in the sense that it will always perform its function for the grooming of the called that are seriously seeking election. The grooming, if you will, is providing the affliction for testing. The activity of clearly stating the terms of the New Covenant in the world will be the connection to that affliction, plus a series of strange things that will continuously pop into the lives of the seekers as well.
I will try to communicate a potentially unpopular point. Contrary to popular opinion, affliction of the announcers of the New Covenant is alive and well today as it ever was. People are not being physically crucified but the world’s hatred of the Lord’s message of the New Covenant is just as intense. The desire for status in the world, in some circles large or small is what drives many.
When you announce the New Covenant to someone, you would think they would be grateful. But from their point of view you are attacking the antichrist philosophy which they use to maintain their status. They want to be able to say something like, “justification is by faith (holding an opinion) alone” or something or anything except the truth and they do not want to be reminded of its futility.
God is the target, you are just the messenger. Get rid of the messenger and they get rid of the reminder. Hence, you become a persona non gratis.
The seekers are given fair warning of the coming afflictions, the trouble involving direct suffering for submitting to the New Covenant. It is going to be with one for a long time,
Page three
notice that this affliction begins with disciples, not the elect. I will cite several passages to insure the notion of afflictions are a central theme.
James 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is being an enemy of God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Oops!
(1) Acts 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue by the pistos, and saying that it is necessary to go through many troubles involving direct suffering for us to enter the kingdom of God.
(2) 1 John 3:13 Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
(3) 1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened to you: but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also you may rejoice with exceeding joy.
(4) Matthew 7:13 Enter in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.
(5) 2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who bring in opinions of destruction, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
On the up side.
1 Peter 4:14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed because the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you.
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we also rejoice in our afflictions: knowing (oida) that afflictions produce endurance; Ro 5:4 and endurance produces character and character produces hope.
James 1:9 Let the brother of low status/position rejoice in that he is exalted:
James 1:12 Blessed is the man who is presently enduring trial, because having become approved he will in the future receive the crown of life which he [the Lord] is promising to the ones agaping him
Of course we can see exactly what God’s will is referred to in Matthew 7:21
1Timothy 2:4 [God] who wills all men to be saved, and to come to the epignosis of aletheias.
Let us look carefully, aletheias as in 1 John 5:20 “. . . that we might ginosko the aletheias one, that is the Lord Jesus Christ. And 2 Peter 1:8 we see “unto the epignosis of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This single verse refers to the heart of the New Covenant.
We will need a definition of the genitive case: Genus belonging to or connected with the genus L&S p.343. It is frequently rendered in the English in the form of possession
Page four
as “of.” I will use the definition of the Greek genitive in distinctive passages in order to avoid what I call “creative translation.”
For clarity and focus we will refer to attributes and members of the Divine genus, Father, Son, Holy Spirit et. al., with this designation, e.g., Divine genus righteousness. For example we see in Romans 3:22 “God genus righteousness through Jesus Christ genus pistos.” Once again, the justification we seek is through the pistos of Jesus Christ and the righteousness is the righteousness of God. Therefore when we get to Romans 3:30 “ . . God will justify circumcision out of pistos and uncircumcision through the pistos,” the pistos is the pistos of Jesus Christ.
Here we have a classic example of “creative translation in Mark 11:22 “. . .” = You must have of God genus pistos. Check your favorite translation. God is in the genitive case. You must have is in the imparative case. It is a simple application of the definition of the genitive case.
Now we need to look at exactly what being righteous before God entails.
Let us notice here that this verse nor any other contains the whole of the New Covenant. This is a statement that the Old Covenant has ended and the Jews may now find God genus righteousness the same way the Gentiles can. God genus righteousness was not part of the Old Covenant
Romans 3:22 God genus righteousness through Jesus Christ genus pistos unto all the pistosing ones, for there is no distinction [between Jew and gentile.] Both God and Jesus Christ in the genitive case.
1 John 2:29 If you oida that righteous is He (God) you gnosis that also everyone doing righteousness has been born out of Him. This is in the form of an apodeixis which is explained in the end notes.
Notice that to be born out of God is a necessary condition for doing the righteousness in view. That same kind and source of righteousness God does the righteousness doings of those who have been declared observant to the rule of and duty to God. Being born of God these righteousness doers belong to the genus God, the divine genus. This is not a standard of righteousness of the world as in:
Romans 10:3 For not gnosising God genus righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
Leg number two, doers of the law of pistos.
Romans 3:27 “ . . though what law? The [law] of works? No, though a law of pistos.
Romans 7:14 we oida that the law is spiritual,
Romans 2:13 For it is not the hearers of the [spiritual] law [of pistos] who are righteous before God, but the doers of the [spiritual] law [of pistos] who will be justified.“ They will be justified [by God] as a matter of fact in the future.
This doing will depend upon the gifts which God has endowed you. If you are good at something of service to the kingdom and like to do it, it is probably a gift.
Page five
1 John 3:18 Let us not agape in word nor by the tongue but in work and truth.
The “work/doing” that is approved of in the world is frequently not the work/doing that is approved of in the eyes of the Lord. Expect to be “out of step” with the antichrists.
Leg number three, the pistos of the Lord
Romans 12:3 “ . . “according as God has given each man a measure of pistos.”
Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified out of works of the law except through Christ Jesus genus pistos. But we have just seen in 1 John 3:18 that there is work, i.e., agape in work and truth. Now, how is a man justified? Through pistos of Christ Jesus, the Christ Jesus genus pistos. That seems to be a very clear statement. Continuing, and we pistosed unto Christ Jesus, in order that we might be justified out of Christ genus pistos. Notice that it is “might be justified” and the pistos in view is the “pistos of Christ.” These two stipulations will always be in view in this analysis.
Examples of transparent Divine-genus pistos:
Romans 3:26 the -out of Jesus-genus pistos.
Romans 3.26 " . . . justifying the out of Jesus genus pistos.
The Greek word for the in the Greek is a noun indicator, it has the same gender and number as the Greek word for justifier. The phrase “the out of Jesus genus pistos” is a restatement of the word justifier.
Colossians 2:12 under the condition of the - working of God raising him -pistos.
Colossians 2.12 You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised through the pistos, the working of God the raising him out of the dead.
We have two important observations: First is “you were also raised through the pistos.” Which or whose pistos is “the pistos?” Is the same pistos which justifies, the pistos of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Divine genus pistos? Of course it is, unless one raises themselves by their own pistos.
The second observation is that after pistos we have an explanatory restatement of the pistos, “the working of God,” and another explanatory restatement of “the working of God,” which is “the raising him [the Lord] out of the dead.”
Revelation 14:12 the Jesus-genus pistos.
Romans 14:12 Here is the endurance of the Saints, the ones keeping the commandments of God and the pistos of Jesus.
Philippians 3:9 the - under condition (or by means) of Christ genus-pistos.
Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having a righteousness out of law, but rather the through Christ genus pistos, the out of God righteousness [based] on the pistos.
Again we see that the righteousness of Paul is “the through Christ genus pistos,” which we have seen repeatedly. Second “the Christ genus pistos has an explanatory restatement, “the out of God righteousness which in turn is [based] on “the pistos.”
Now we have established that justification is the though pistos. Not a pistos of the natural man but the Divine genus pistos of the Lord Jesus Christ as in Galatians 2:16 above.
With that in mind we look at Romans 3:30 Since one God will justify the circumcision out of pistos and uncircumcision through the pistos.
In Colossians 2:12 we have, “you were also raised through the pistos.”
In Galatians 3:26 we have, “all are sons of God though the pistos.”
In Romans 3:25 ”whom God put forward an expiation through the pistos.”
Since there is no evidence that justification is through anything except the Divine genus. We will translate Romans 3:30 accordingly
Romans 3:30 Since one God will justify the circumcision out of pistos and uncircumcision through the Divine genus pistos; the pistos of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I will be trying to make it apparent that there are eight attributes in the New Covenant which all men have which they have a native capacity to practice as natural men. But not as the members of the Divine genus do.
1 Corinthians 2:14 “But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. They are folly to him and he is not able to gnosis (connect to) them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
The called seeker is to embrace this folly. The folly is that it is possible and necessary to be attributed with the capacity of these eight attributes and to practice them with power as a born again child of God available all members of the Divine genus. The indwelling of Holy Spirit in the reborn is a critical factor in the exercise of these eight available Divine genus attributes.
The necessary practice of (1) the assenting to the soul to the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ to be come sons of God, to have God genus righteousness, to have the soul renewed etc. (2) along with saying the same thing (homologos) and (3) the prescribed doings that are the most developed natural attributes at justification. These are the three legs of the stool discussed above. Romans 10:17 defines how the Divine genus is imputed.
We will need to use these three, the pistos, doing righteousness and homologos to develop the other five.
The Divine genus pistos
Now we address the not, might and do of pistos with respect to eternal life. One is free to choose the one they like and ignore the rest or they can insist on a congruent resolution of the apparent paradox to those who would contend that anyone who will think the right thoughts immediately has eternal life.
NOT: John 2:23 “. . . Many pistosed unto his authority/name . . .”
John 2:24 “. . . Jesus did not pistos them . . .”
MIGHT: John 3:15 “that whoever believes pistos’ in him might have eternal life."
John 6:40 “. . . beholding the Son and pistosing unto him may have (subjunctive case may/might) eternal life. . .”
Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the message of the Lord; ‘those who had been designated for eternal life became’ pistosers. Louw-Nida
That is – “those who had been called unto eternal life pistosed, ” Therefore it is whosoever pistoses may/might . . .
DO:
1 Timothy 1:16 howbeit because of this I obtained mercy, in order that in me as first Jesus Christ might show forth all his longsuffering, for an example of them that might there after to pistos on him unto eternal life.
I am being a linear as I can. First seek to be justified with pistos, logos, and doing, i.e. pistosing unto the Lord that he might justify, homologos, and do the things he did and told the called to do.
1 Peter 1:9 obtaining the result of the [Divine genus] pistos, salvation of souls.
James 1:21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness and receive/take hold of with meekness the implanted word/message, the being able to save your souls.
1 John 2:23 “the one contradicting the Son neither has the Father, the one homologosing the Son has the Father also.” May be read with 1 John 5:12 The one having the Son has the life, the one not having the Son of God does not have the eternal life.
Let us be very clear on this point. To say the same thing as the Lord necessarily entails the announcement of the New Covenant. That is the central theme of the New Testament.
1 John 2:29 the doers of righteousness have been born of God
Now to pull it all together: Justification requires pistos, logos and a doing
The event.
The Old Covenant
Romans 9:30-31 “What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, acquired righteousness, the out of pistos righteousness: but Israel, following unto a law [of Moses] righteousness, did not arrive. Why [didn’t Israel arrive?] because [their pursuit] was not out of pistos but rather out of works [of the law of Moses] . . . Romans 11:26 . . “ but all Israel will be saved.”
Romans 11:7 “What then? Israel has not obtained that which he sought after; but the elect has obtained it, and the rest were blinded.”
Election, New Covenant justification was not available under the Old Covenant. Old Covenant righteousness was through human genus pistos alone. Romans 3:30 “. . . God who will justify the circumcision out of pistos . .”
The New Covenant
Let us reestablish the primacy of congruence with the whole of the New Testament of any renderings. We will look at several statements on a topic and be certain that they do not contradict one another.
Romans 12:3 “. . . “according as God has given to each man a measure of pistos.”
John 8:47 He that is out of God akouei “hears” the predications of God: therefore you do not akouei “hear”, because you are not out of God.
1 John 4:5 They are out of the world: therefore they speak out of the world, and the world akouei "hears" them. 1 John 4:6 We [children of God John 3:2] are of God. He that gnosis’ God akouei "hears" us; he who is not of God does not akouei "hear" us. By this we gnosis the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
Other than the deaf who is not able to hear the “they” who speak out of the world? I have never heard anyone in John’s group speak.
John 8:43 “. . . you are not able to "hear" akouein my logos (message).” So if it is a sensatory hearing in view, then the Lord was speaking to the deaf. I am tired of the argument.
We look at the Greek Corpus. Clement of Alexandria will be our source of someone who best demonstrates how the word is to be understood in many usages. However, any other citation from any Greek Corpus Christian author may also stand in Clements’ place.
Clement: Stromata 2.4.17.3.1 to de katakousai suneinai estin.
katakousai suneinai estin.
To hear to join is
Literally is sun with + eimi to be = to be with, to join, come together (L&S 9th edition, p.1705) hence Clement’s to hear is to join, but suneimi is used with respect to notions - to ideas, therefore to join with my logos. They do not to add their ideas to Gods’ ideas, they are to take them as they are.
We will render the akons as "joining" and make explicit which pistos is in view in Romans 10:17.
Application:
Romans 10:17 is a verse where one must have a Greek Testament to see the falsification referred to in 2 Corinthians 4:2. Romans 10:17 commonly it reads something like “Faith cometh from hearing and hearing cometh from a word of the Lord.” I don’t know what that is supposed to mean because I have always held opinions in my mind from seeing and thinking as well.
It seems that when the affliction, homologos, pistos and the doing reach a threshold/critical mass, justification occurs as a technical event. That is, praying for it to happen is not in view. There is no back door or special consideration. When everything is in place, the Lord is reliable, it happens. Praise God.
Romans 10.17 apa accordingly then, e the pistos < blank space> ek out from akoes, and the akoe <blank space> through rematos predication of Christ.
The above is Romans 10:17 in a word by word translation except we have left a < blank space> where a verb must go. And the two akons are un-translated. Notice in your translation the second word of the verse is always omitted, Greek word akons are rendered hearing and cometh is inserted where < blank space> is indicated.
There can never be a derivation of the New Covenant from the New Testament with these glosses (errors) in this verse.
First step, the verbs “accordingly the pistos is out of akons, and the akon is through a predication of Christ.”
The default assumption is always a simple copula is. "Naturally this copula is not always considered necessary. It can be readily dispensed with when both subject and the real predicate are present. This indeed is the most frequent ellipsis on all in all stages of the language, especially the form <is>" Robertson page 395
Romans 10:17 accordingly the Divine genus pistos is out of joining and the joining is through a predication of Christ.
This is the event of justification with the imputation of a Divine attribute, the Divine genus pistos.
In summary to this point we see the seeker of justification pistosing unto the Lord Jesus for him to Divine genus pistos convert the seeker to a son of God (below). The assenting to his authority necessarily entails saying the same thing agreeing with and coming to terms with logos of the Lord and the doings required by the seeker as above.
John 1:12 “But as many a received him he gave them the authority (opportunity) to become children of God, to those assenting unto his authority.”
The Justified
Now we can see a fuller statement of what constitutes the necessary and sufficient conditions for eternal life.
I will explicitly show the parse of the verbs.
John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who is presently actively joined with my logos and is continuously concurring in their will to the authority of God - by means of the preserving work of the one who sent me, presently has as a matter of fact, eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to the [eternal] life.”
A new rite of passage
Hebrews 10:32 But you remember in the former days in which having been enlightened [taught] . . . 10:33 “you were at times exhibited as an object of shame by insults and mistreatment.” Louw – Nida Lexicon This should happen several times.
Every book in the New Testament is not directly addressing every reader in the same sense. We see in Ephesians that the epistle is primarily written to people with all, among others, the following attributes.
Ephesians 2:19 “. . . you are fellow citizens of the Saints and members of the family of God.
And Ephesians 5:11 Are commanded to make an excoriating logical refutation of the works of darkness. One must understand the New Covenant before they are able to argue it, and the god of the world is at work with the antichrists to see to it that as few as possible do so.
And Ephesians 3:17-19 Possess the Divine genus pistos and are rooted and grounded in agape (note John 14:17) Seeking to gnosis the agape of Christ, that which all the saints do and more of course.
Therefore we will look at 1 John 4:7 Agaptoi, let us agape one another, because the agape is out the inside of God, and everyone agaping out of God has been born of and are presently gnosising God. The full rendering of the Greek preposition ek is “out from the inside of” usually shorten to “out of.”
The agape is (ek) out from the inside of God, Divine genus agape. The agaped of God, the agaptoi, and have the strength in their inner man to do so. This activity of Divine genus agaping one another constitutes the state of gnosising God. In the Ephesians 3 analysis which follows, the instructions of how to arrive at the event to gnosis God are in place. The process is available to all the justified.
Ephesians is written to the saints and justified in Ephesus. Let us look closely at this Ephesians 3 text.
The word saint is the same word as in holy as in Holy Spirit. It means inviolate, as in “the holiness of God is not capable of being broken or forced.” It is free from violation.
Eph 3:16-19 “that he [God] would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, [such that] you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; Christ may dwell in your hearts [seat of your purpose] by means of the [Divine genus] pistos; having been rooted and grounded in [human genus] agape, in order that you may be strong to apprehend with all the inviolate ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, (ge) notice here to gnosis the ginosko surpassing agape of the Christ, in order that you might be filled unto all the fullness of God.”
Let us assume that gnosising the agape of the Christ is far and away the brightest gem the in one’s crown and that is what is in view.
A) It is the only attribute which Paul or anyone else suggests requires prayer for strength in the inner man. After this one, the rest may be technical events as I have suggested that justification is. Those who disagree may cite a counter example.
B) It requires on the part of the justified to be rooted and founded in agape, that is, well established in keeping God’s New Covenant commandments.
C) The medium on the part of the justified is the Divine genus pistos.
D) Notice that all the inviolate ones already gnosis the agape of the Christ.
E) The strength is to be able, the parenthetics aside, to gnosis the agape of the Christ.
F) Opening the door to be filled to all the fullness of God.
In 1 John 2:13 and 2:14 we see (neaniskoi), young men, that are strong and who have over come the evil one. This is John’s language for inviolate ones. In 2 Peter 1:8 the coming to the epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ is Peter’s language for inviolate ones.
In First John the message is to the justified. He gives us a sketch of the steps which the serious seekers go through, in Paul’s words, to be filled to all the fullness of God.
1 John 3:24 And he that keeps his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And hereby we gnosis that he abides in us, out of the Spirit whom he has given us.
The implication is that the Spirit is given at justification since 1 John is written to them and the [Holy] Spirit is given to us.
As in John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,
John14:26 But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
John 14:16, 15:26 and 16:7 the Lord speaks of sending the Spirit of Truth is described as (comforter/helper) another aid (Louw-Nida ). We may read that is an aid to help one do things with respect to the Divine genus pistos.
We can see the progression through the New Covenant from the metaphor of being a little child through adulthood along with their attributes in 1 John.
(Teknia), little children are justified, called children of God
(Paidia), young children who oida all things have the anointing from the Lord which teaches them all things, are warned of antichrists.
(veaviskoi), young men are inviolate. They have also gnosised the agape of the Christ as in Ephesians 3 above. They are instructed to avoid the interests of the world.
(Pateres), fathers, gnosised the one from the beginning. Possibly epignosis the Lord Jesus Christ as in 2 Peter 1:8
(Agapetoi), John 14:21 “The one having my commands and keeping them, that is the one agaping me. The agaping me will be agaped by my Father and I will agape him and will manifest myself to him.” All the addresses then receive general information.
Anointing vs inviolate, the “saints” need teaching? In Ephesians 4 congruence. Anointing assigning a task, the assigning of a task teaches them all things?
Put on the new man.
The phase to put on the new man occurs in both Ephesians and Colossians. In Ephesians 4:20 you were taught to 4:23 be renewed in the spirit of the mind for the elect (as opposed to the renewing of the soul for those seeking election (note mind vs. soul), and as you have been taught to put on the new man.
Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as God's elect, . .
In Colossians 3:9-10 [God’s elect – justified] having put off the old man and having put on the new man the one being renewed unto epignosis according to an image of the one the creating him. The verb to create is in the Greek present, presently and continuously creating. (note on does and don’t) This is a key step in Paul’s rendition of the maturing of the justified. The new inward man has to exist before it can be put on.
Reading the two passages together we see; they were taught and they obeyed to put off the old man, put on the new man such that the renewing of the mind and progress to epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ is proceeding.
Renewing of the mind; if one looks at the list of does and don’t carefully, all that it is saying is that you are not administering the world, you can not bring justice to this system of things. Align yourself with God’s administration, in your mind as you have with you deeds.
Yet another caveat
Hebrews 6:4-6 “it is impossible for the ones once enlightened (justified) and tasting the heavenly gifts and becoming sharers of the Holy Spirit and [sharers of] the good tasting predications (rema) of God and [sharers of] the powerful deeds of the coming age and falling away to renew unto repentance . . . “ (note rema Predication, part of a sentence excluding the subject)
John and Peter repeat the warning.
1John 5:16-17 If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and [God] will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. ASV
2 Peter 2:20-1 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through an epignosis of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first. For it were better for them not to have epignosised the way of righteousness, than epignosising it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them
This is the anointing of the Holy Spirit of the ones who don’t need a teacher, they epignosis the way of righteousness where the sin against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
Now the good news, here is when being justified with the new man on, (escaped the defilements of the world) progress toward the epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ is on track, the old things have pasted away and the promised all things have become new.
The attribution of the status of inviolate is now in view. With the presence of the Holy Spirit within and the Divine genus pistos for protection and strength etc., the goal of the New Covenant for every called of God has been reached. The ability to conduct oneself with the full empowerment within God’s administration on earth is at hand.
With the presence of the Holy Spirit, the afflictions from the antichrists to the inviolate’s announcement of the New Covenant and speaking the truth become entirely ineffective in changing his conduct.
In the lexicons we see a frequent use of the word holy which is to be inviolate. God cannot be violated; He cannot be tempted into violating His own rules and duties which he has prescribed for himself. I include them here for clarification of a point that I am trying to make. I would take exception to these common definitions. I think they have been extrapolated from Old Testament temple requirements.
88.24 agios: pertaining to being holy in the sense of superior moral qualities and possessing certain essentially divine qualities in contrast with what is human. Louw - Nida
agios: as the quality of persons or things that can be brought near or into God's presence; Friberg Analytical Lexicon of the New Testament.
1Th 5:26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss. Paul writes this phrase several times. It is the attribute of being inviolate that makes something able to be brought into God’s presence. Holy is a mystery word to most people.
1 Peter 1:8 The epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Timothy 2:4 the epignosis of aletheis, the epignosis according to an image of the one the creating him are convertible. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth.
The result of Ephesians 3:24 to be renewed unto epignosis according to an image of the one the creating him is referred to Ephesians 3:18 to be filled to all the fullness of God, Ephesians 4:13 stature of the fullness of the anointing, 1 Timothy 2:4 come to the epignosis of alethia ect.
2 Peter 1:1 “. . . having obtained with us the equally precious pistos through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.” 1:4 “. . . through the precious and great promises in order that we might become sharers of the Divine nature. . . “ 1:5 do ones best to provide all

Same words Galatians 2:16 “. . . through the pistos of Christ Jesus and we have pistosed (eis) unto Christ Jesus in order that we might be justified out of pistos [of Christ Jesus.]
Self control = `to exercise self-control' may require an idiomatic equivalent, for example, `to hold oneself in,' `to command oneself,' `to be a chief of oneself,' `to make one's heart be obedient,' `to command one's own desires,' `to be the master of what one wants,' or `to say No to one's body.' Louw-Nida
1 John 2:10 – no cause for stumbling and 5:18 no touching by satan.

Piety = appropriate beliefs and devout practice of obligations relating to supernatural persons and powers’ Louw-Nida

The Agape
Ephesians 3:19 The agape is the Divine genus agape which is gnosised by the justified after a strengthening by the Father of the inner man of those having been rooted and grounded in human genus agape. John 14:21 The one having my commandments and keeping them, that is the one agaping me.
Eis unto the epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ
Here is a simple explanation. The epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ is how the Lord thinks about the things of Heaven and earth with respect to these eight attributes. That is their respective importance, priorities, value from God’s point of view.
A more literal and technical explanation which includes the meaning of epignosis will be predicated on the readers understanding of the appendix on gnosis.
This is a little abstract for modern western thought. Think of gnosis as an adverbial connection between two ideas/notions. The epi part of epignosis refers that there are several sets of ideas/notions to be connected. It will look like this: B and A, C and A, D and A etc. This is the epignosis of the Lord Jesus Christ. How does he connect the things He sees in the world and in the rule of God? It is very different than the natural man. How much value might the Lord place upon anyone’s position or stature in the world?
